Piazza della Libertà is a recently constructed square designed by the renowned architect Ricardo Bofill. The square is very large (approximately 28,000 square meters at an altitude of about 5 meters above sea level), has a large underground parking lot, and was designed with the purpose of opening the city to its sea and connecting the Trieste seafront to the main port of the city (the Manfredi pier) and the maritime station. From the square, tourists disembarking from cruise ships can easily access some of the key points of Salerno: the Verdi theater; the Villa Comunale; the City Palace; the historic center. The "ice cream cone" structure is limited by a semicircle consisting of a building called Crescent with a beautiful portico and two sides facing the sea because they both open to the view of this essential element in the city's history. At the bottom, almost at sea level, two beautiful walks have been created, one towards the historic beach of Santa Teresa and the other towards the port. Many rooms open onto these two avenues, which will be occupied by leisure venues such as pubs, restaurants, bars ... Since its inauguration on September 20, 2021, the square has become one of the favorite destinations for Salerno's walks and the ideal set for the photos of newlyweds or anyone celebrating important days.
